Jim’s birthday, Sharon in Atlanta GA on Saturday the 20th March and east to Florence, SC on Sunday the 21st
March 20th, 2010 by susan_dyer

Saturday the 20th of March was Jim’s birthday!!  Thirty-nine….again!  :)   Happy Birthday Sweetie!  The Jameson Inn (Pooler, GA.)  breakfast experience (at least that morning) was something that should be missed.  We tried it, then got on the highway (I-16) looking for a Mickey D’s.

After a delicious coffee and breakfast, we were back on the I-16 heading northwest towards Atlanta.  We passed through gorgeous countryside.  We drove through farmland…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 498

…and we drove past small country homes…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 481

We drove by a road going to Adrian, Georgia!!  If we hadn’t already arranged to meet Sharon at 2:30 PM, we would have gone off to see what Adrian was like…  :)

24Mar2010SharonGerry 492

We were well on track to meet Sharon & Rob at the North Lake Mall, and then the traffic bogged down in a long, long traffic jam.  As we inched forward, we finally came upon this accident, and like magic, as soon as we were inches down the highway the road opened up…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 504

Then our poor old Tom-Tom had a seniors moment and lost all sense of getting us to the Mall.  It directed us through small neighbourhoods where we saw our first daffodil of the season…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 513

There were beautiful trees in bloom…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 518

24Mar2010SharonGerry 531

Beautiful homes….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 519

24Mar2010SharonGerry 522

24Mar2010SharonGerry 541

And finally, only 30 minutes late…we arrived at the North Lake Mall …..

24Mar2010SharonGerry 542

We walked around and around the Mall, wondering if Sharon and Rob had gone home.  We found Rob finally, and I ran outside to see Sharon who was waiting to see if she could spot our car…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 543

We went back inside the Mall and had a great, albeit late, lunch.  After catching up on each other’s news, we took some photos back out in the parking lot, before we went our separate ways again at just after 6:00 PM!  We had such a great visit!

Jim, Sharon & Rob…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 559

Me, Sharon & Rob….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 549

And then someone passing by offered to take a picture of the four of us.  Thank you kind stranger!  :)

24Mar2010SharonGerry 552

Rob waving ‘bye…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 566

And a last glance at Sharon before getting back on the I-75…..  :(

24Mar2010SharonGerry 567

We got stuck in rush hour traffic getting back out of Atlanta, so we called it a night at yet another Extended Stay America motel in a small place called Morrow, GA.  We stopped and picked up an ice cream cake for Jim’s birthday and enjoyed a quiet evening…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 573

Sunday the 21st of March was yet another day of rain.  :(   No breakfast at the motel, but we were in a hurry anyway.  We had an appointment to see a rig in a very small place called Griffin, about 30 miles south of Morrow.  So we hurried off, hoping to see the RV before the owner headed off to church…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 576

This was the rig we saw, an absolutely beautiful coach, but too rich for our taste…  :(

24Mar2010SharonGerry 584

The ‘Zuki really looked cute beside it….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 585

We still hadn’t had a coffee that morning, so we found yet another Mickey D’s down the street for a really good breakfast.  We continued on the I-16 towards Jackson in, wait for it….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 586

24Mar2010SharonGerry 588

The rain came and went.  The homes along the way were attractive…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 589

  24Mar2010SharonGerry 598

Gosh, I wish that I could have seen this place before they put in the modern picture window….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 599

24Mar2010SharonGerry 608

24Mar2010SharonGerry 611

The road continued, between small town after small town, up hill and down dale….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 615

Same hill, but the black truck completely disappeared in that last photo….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 616

We passed through Eatonton, GA….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 619

The home of Brer Rabbit.  There is a lot on Google about the rabbit, and I liked this particular web site….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 620

More farms…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 625

24Mar2010SharonGerry 626

24Mar2010SharonGerry 629

More lovely homes…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 632

More rolling hills….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 634

…. and farmland…

24Mar2010SharonGerry 670

I really liked this old place….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 642

…and this tiny house was interesting….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 643

Buildings with imposing columns were everywhere, both commercial….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 647

…and residential.

24Mar2010SharonGerry 668

Soon after we passed this small town, (Thomson, GA)….

24Mar2010SharonGerry 673

…. we took a ramp onto the I-20 and headed towards Myrtle Beach, SC.

24Mar2010SharonGerry 688

And it poured the whole way.  It poured so hard that the wipers on the ‘Zuki gave out right after we passed through Columbia.  :(     We were stuck, go back to Columbia or struggle on to Florence.  It was a really hard drive for Jim, trying to see through the windshield.  So we stopped in Florence for the night at an Econolodge.  It was such a relief not to be at another Extended Stay America.  Supper was eaten at my all time favourite restaurant….  Fazoli’s …  :)

24Mar2010SharonGerry 691

Tomorrow, North Myrtle Beach and another appointment to see yet another RV.  They were everywhere….  :)

Great photos Sue. They mean the world to me on my journey. The route you took had so much Southern charm. Thank you so much for sharing. Sharon ox

Hi Sharon, Thanks for making that day so special! Maybe we will see you on our way north? Georgia is a beautiful state with lots of interesting country roads! xo

Those rolling hills! their roads remind me a bit of some of the roads in the mountains of New England. Glad you were able to connect with Sharon and Rob….love the one of the four of you.

Thanks Nina. It is a great picture. I don’t remember who took it…man, woman, boy, girl…but it sure was nice of them to stop for a minute! I think I like the rolling green hills over the desert, but there is something to be said about the raw beauty of it all. I guess I just like being on the road and seeing new things! :)

Griffin Sue; I’m sure we’ll met again. A friend of mind had a project in Griffin. I met her there for dinner; small world for sure. Miss you. Sharon ox
